Body of Man Recovered from Steep Goat Mountain

At the request of the Clackamas County (OR) Sheriff's Office, Portland Mountain Rescue
joined members of the American Medical Response Reach and Treat Team and Pacific Northwest
Search and Rescue in the recovery of a man's body found on a steep portion of Goat Mountain.
Early Tuesday morning, the teams assembled at the base of the 4,000-foot butte just East
of the town of Colton, Oregon. After completing a slow drive up a Mount Hood National
Forest Road 4520, the teams reached the top of the mountain and the steep cliff where the
subject had fallen over 100 feet earlier in the week.
Due to the high angle nature of the operation, PMR took charge and rigged a technical
system to lower a litter (type of stretcher) and two rescuers to the scene. The
two PMR members carefully packaged the man's body into the litter for raising to the
top of the peak.
The difficult terrain caused a few difficulties in bringing the litter to the top, but
some fast thinking and ingenuity solved the problems quickly. In just over 4 hours,
the teams completed their work and, through the retreival of the man's body, helped to
provide a measure of closure to his family.
