PMR Joins Search for Missing UofO Professor
Nov 9 - 11, 2007

November 9-11: The Lane County Sheriff requested PMR to join in the search for a hiker missing since the previous weekend in the Three Sisters Wilderness east of Eugene . The subject is a 63 year old college professor, familiar with day hiking in the area. He was apparently lightly prepared, intending to return the same day. Another hiking group had reported seeing him returning from the summit towards the trail-head.

PMR sent teams on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, prepared to help search steeper terrain around Olallie Mountain. The teams participated by hiking trails and ridge-tops where a lost hiker might try to reach, and also searched forest and steep slopes along the Olallie trail for indications of anyone leaving the path to the summit. While weather was favorable on Friday, conditions deteriorated for Saturday and Sunday, including rain, sleet, wind, and cooler temperatures.
