Conducting a Rutschblock test

A Rutschblock test involves cutting a large block of snow, then standing and jumping on it to see how quickly the snow layers will fracture and slide.

This test is important to understanding the avalanche risk. However, since snow stability varies throughout the mountain, this information can only be trusted for the immediate area of test.
